The Chair of the Bard
Craft Wales designed and made the Chair of the Bard for the 2015 Urdd Eisteddfod.

[ What we build ]
Most of what we build starts as a conversation about a space and an idea. We draw it, make it in our own factory and install it ourselves, whether that is an outdoor classroom, a carved chair or something nobody has asked us for before.
[ Some of our work ]
Craft Wales designed and made the Chair of the Bard for the 2015 Urdd Eisteddfod.
The workshop has made pieces for DreamWorks and Granada Studios.
Craft Wales products have been shipped to customers in America and Australia.
[ The range ]
Storytelling thrones, commissioned chairs and ceremonial pieces, carved to your design.
Pirate ships, trains, castles and whatever else a school has set its heart on.
A carved entrance that tells people where they are and who they are visiting.
One-off timber pieces for gardens, parks, schools and public spaces.
Set pieces, props and display work for film, television and retail.
If you have an idea and a space for it, we will come and look at it.
[ How it works ]
A site visit, a measure up and a conversation about what you actually want.
Every structure is drawn by hand, to scale, before anything is cut.
Built in our own factory in Ystrad Mynach, by the people who will install it.
Delivered and fitted on site by our own team.
[ The workshop ]
More than 3,500 square metres of workshop and factory space, with CNC cutting, a spray booth and in-house metal fabrication. That is what makes a one-off possible without sending the job out to somebody else.

[ Who we build them for ]
Storytelling thrones, themed play and one-off pieces built around a school's own idea.

Everything we make is finished in an oil-based product, and we recommend re-coating each spring. That stops the timber cracking and splintering, keeps the water out and slows the algae that makes a surface slippery.
On a yearly maintenance plan we come back, inspect the timber, make good any minor damage and re-spray it. In year five we add an anti-fungal treatment.
[ How we work ]
We come to you, measure up and talk through what you need.
We draw it up by hand, to scale, and give you a fixed price.
Built by our own team in Ystrad Mynach.
Delivered and fitted on site by the people who made it.
We come back, inspect the timber and re-oil it, so it lasts.
